Discover the Sunglasses Worn by William and Kate
A unique British eyewear brand is gaining attention for the sunglasses that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be sporting this weekend. The brand, Finlay, may not be widely recognized, but it has become a preferred choice in the royal family.
With just two retail locations in the UK, Finlay operates under the radar. However, it is favored by the House of Wales for its stylish and reasonably priced eyewear.
Kate Middleton has been seen in Finlay designs multiple times and has even visited their Notting Hill outlet for shopping. She notably wore the cat-eye style known as the “Henrietta” during an official tour in the Bahamas back in 2022.
Recently, she chose a square tortoiseshell frame called “Vivian” for her anniversary trip to the Isle of Mull. William is equally enthusiastic about the brand, having donned the square “Marshall” sunglasses at both Lords and Wimbledon.
Each model, including those worn by the couple, retails for £160, which is a competitive price compared to many high-end eyewear options. Part of Finlay’s appeal may lie in the fact that their sunglasses are unbranded.
The frames are designed in London, crafted from biodegradable Mazzucchelli acetate, and equipped with high-quality German Zeiss lenses to provide excellent UV protection.
The Duchess of Sussex has also been spotted wearing Finlay sunglasses, along with celebrity icons like Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, and the rock band Oasis. Notably, Noel Gallagher has partnered with Finlay to create a collection supporting the Teenage Cancer Trust.
So how has this boutique label, founded 13 years ago in Soho, captured the attention of fashion enthusiasts?
Dane Butler, the co-founder of Finlay, describes the brand’s aesthetic as having “a quiet confidence and understated Britishness.” While he refrains from confirming any specific sales impact from the couple’s popularity, he does acknowledge that the brand has achieved “significant double-digit year-on-year growth.”
This summer, the cat-eye “Windermere” sunglasses and the stylish “Enismore” aviators are trends to watch, especially for those attending next month’s Wimbledon. If you’re interested in these fashionable frames, act quickly to secure your pair.
